2015 Spring Program Information

Southwest Spring League (SWSL)

The Southwest Spring Hockey League provides an opportunity for players to continue playing hockey in the Spring.

  • 9 game minimum
  • 5 team practices
  • Jersey fee of $30 for those needing a St. Jude reversible jersey  (current St. Jude players can use their 2014-15 reversible jersey if it fits and is in good condition).

A limited number of spots will be available for these teams.

Cost is $325 per player, $100 per goalie to those registering for evaluations by February 28th and accepting automatic processing of their SWSL payment on April 1st.

For those registering for evaluations after March 1st or later or those who do not accept automatic SWSL payment processing, the fee is $350 per player and $115 per goalie.

Spring Evaluations

All players, regardless of level, skill or regular season club, must attend spring evaluations to be placed on a SWSL roster.

Cost is $35 per player or goalie for early bird registration by February 28th, $50 if registering on March 1st or later.

St. Jude Spring 3-on-3

This spring take a break from clinics and structured skates and enjoy the benefits of 3-on-3, half-ice.  This recreational program will allow players to mix up their positions and work on their small ice game in a fun environment.

  • Spring 3-on-3 is being offered for Mite through Bantam players, based on Winter 2014 season age brackets, including 2008s.
  • Teams will be assigned with balanced abilities and have a maximum of 9 skaters and 1 goalie per team.
  • Teams will be assigned by Jackie Wedster, AJ Hernacki and Paul Manning.
  • Players will register as individuals.
  • Each team will play twelve 25-minute games between February 23rd and Mar 29th. Each game day will consist of two games played back-to-back.  Games will be played half-ice with two games taking place simultaneously

Teams are limited - register early.

Cost is $100 per player.

St. Jude 3-on-3 Schedule:

New to Game Play Clinic

This clinic is for the player that has completed St. Jude's Little Knights Learn to Play program and is ready to progress to team-play in the spring season.  Southwest Spring League (SWSL) will play full-ice at all levels in Spring 2015.  This clinic will prepare players for elements of full-ice play such as off-sides, line-ups, shift changes, rules, etc... while also building their endurance and stamina.

  • 5 full-ice skates
  • for birth year 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008 players who have never played on an organized team
  • The class will meet on the following Thursday nights at SIA from 5:35p - 6:35p
    • February 19th, 26th
    • March 5th, 19th, 26th

 

Cost is $95 per player.  Early bird discount is $90 if registered by February 15th.

Checking Clinic

All first year Bantams (2002's) must attend a checking clinic BEFORE they begin play in the 2015 Spring Season.

Checking Clinics will be run by St. Jude Assistant Hockey Director AJ Hernacki along with additional St. Jude instructors.

Checking Clinics will feature the following concepts:

  • Proper balance and stance in order to receive a check and give a check.
  • Using the boards to brace yourself when being checked.
  • Proper angles to use when checking.
  • Proper technique to give and receive a check:
    • Hands and sticks down!
    • Keeping head up and not ducking or leaning into the boards.

This clinic is recommended for all Bantams and second year Pee Wees.  Players will be paired up by size when checking.

Cost of the clinic is $50 per player, $25 to repeat clinic if a player previously completed a St. Jude checking clinic.

Registration fee covers participation in all clinics offered; players must participate in at least one.

Little Knights Program

St. Jude will be offering a spring Little Knights Learn to Play session.

  • 12 fun skates
  • Designed for players between 5-10 who have basic skating experience.
  • ADM (American Development Model) skill and techniques integrated into the program.
  • All players must have full hockey gear.
  • Program will meet on Saturdays and Sundays from 830-930a at Southwest Ice Arena, excluding Saturdays May 9th and 16th.

Cost is $200 per player.  Early Bird Special is $185 for those registering by February 28th.

Learn to Skate Program

St. Jude will offer a spring Learn to Skate session in April through May.

  • 8 engaging sessions
  • Effective skating skills infused in the program to develop future hockey players
  • Designed for players aged 3-8.  (all players must be 3 years old)
  • All skating sessions will be on the Studio Rink at Southwest Ice Arena.  This small-ice environment is skater-friendly for beginners.

Girls Program

  • Girls Open House
    • Monday, March 9, 7:15 to 9:30 PM at Oak Lawn Ice Arena
  • SWSL
    • Girls U14/U12 Team (will play in SWSL Pee-Wee Division)
    • Girls U12/U10 Team (will play in SWSL Squirt Division)
    • Girls U10/U8 Team (will play in SWSL Mite Division)
    • 9 game minimum
    • 5 team practices

USA Hockey Insurance

How to Purchase Your USA Hockey Insurance On-line

USA Hockey has made it mandatory for each player and coach to purchase their USA Hockey Insurance on line. Insurance must be purchased and receipt provided to St. Jude no later than the beginning of each program. No player will be allowed to participate in any St. Jude program without the proof of Insurance receipt provided by USA Hockey. 
How to Obtain USA Hockey Insurance:
  • To obtain USA Hockey insurance go to www.usahockey.com
  • Click on Membership at the top of the page,
  • Choose Register Online from the pull down screen,
  • Choose – Ice Players & Coaches,
Follow directions as provided.

Print off receipt and provide copy to St. Jude or email to the St.  Jude Registrar to Sue Peters USA Hockey Insurance must be purchased by Visa, Mastercard, American Express or Discover card.
No player will be allowed on the ice without proof of USA Hockey Insurance. Absolutely NO exceptions!!
