Why Travel?

This is our competitive travel league which participates in the Northern Illinois Hockey League (NIHL) for squirt (10U) through bantam (14U) levels. The emphasis of travel hockey is on individual player development and fielding competitive teams. Players are selected on a tryout basis. Time commitment is 3-5 hours per week. Home games are played at Southwest Ice Arena, Oak Lawn Ice Arena and at the Morgan Park Sports Center. Away games are played at other area rinks in the entire Chicagoland area. Travel hockey features 5 possible levels of play: Bronze, Silver, Gold, Elite and Premier Select. Players who sign up for travel will be placed on the appropriate level depending on the skills demonstrated.  All hockey placements will be made by St. Jude's Hockey Director and hockey staff.

Travel league cost includes the following:

  • 20-24 games plus playoff tournament if eligible
  • League and referee fees
  • Typically 3-5 hours of ice per week
  • Weekly Power Skate / Goalie instruction through January
  • Coach instructed off-ice conditioning
  • 2 tournament entry fees (Additional tournaments decided by head coach and families will be an additional cost)
