St. Jude Knights Hockey Club strictly enforces the "Zero Tolerance" rule.

Zero Tolerance

In an effort to keep ice hockey a more desirable and rewarding experience for all participants, AHAI has instructed the Officiating Program to adhere to certain points of emphasis relating to sportsmanship. This campaign is designated to require all players, coaches, officials, team officials, administrators, and parents/spectators to maintain a sportsmanlike and educational atmosphere before, during and after all USA Hockey-sanctioned games. Thus, the following points of emphasis must be implemented by all On-ice Referees and Linesmen:

PLAYERS

A minor penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct (Zero Tolerance) shall be assessed whenever a player:

1. Openly disputes or argues any decision by an official.

2. Uses obscene or vulgar language at anytime, including any swearing, even if it is not directed at a particular person.

3. Visually demonstrates any sign of dissatisfaction with an official's decision. Anytime that a player persists in any of these actions, they shall be assessed a misconduct penalty. A game misconduct shall result if the player continues such action.

Any player receiving a game misconduct penalty in a league game (NIHL, NWHL, CUHL, CSDHL, AHAI) will receive a 1 game suspension to be served the next previously scheduled league game, If a practice game had been previously scheduled prior to the next league game, the player is suspended for that game as well. If the player receives a game misconduct penalty in a practice game or non-league tournament game, that player is to be suspended for the next previously scheduled game.

COACHES

A minor penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct (Zero Tolerance) shall be assessed whenever a coach:

1. Openly disputes or argues any decision by an official.

2. Uses obscene or vulgar language in a boisterous manner to anyone at anytime.

3. Visually displays any sign of dissatisfaction with an official's decision, including standing on the boards or standing in the bench doorway with the intent of inciting the officials, players or spectators.

Anytime that a coach persists in any of these actions, they shall be assessed a game misconduct penalty.

Game Misconducts - League Games (NIHL, NWHL, CUHL, CSDHL, AHAI)

Any Coach receiving a game misconduct penalty in a league game (NIHL, NWHL, CUHL, CSDHL, AHAI) will receive an additional 3 game suspension to be served the next 3 previously scheduled league games. If a practice game had been scheduled or is scheduled the coach is suspended for this game as well and this does not satisfy the suspension.

Game Misconducts - Practice games or Non-league tournament game

Any Coach receiving a game misconduct penalty in a practice game or a non-league tournament game will be given a 3 game suspension, the coach is to serve his suspension the next 3 previously scheduled games.

DURING THE SUSPENSION, THE COACH WILL NOT BE PERMITTED TO COACH IN ANY CAPACITY, INCLUDING ANY PRACTICES, GAMES, PRE-GAMES, POST-GAMES etc. ( The coach will be allowed to sit in the stands and watch his child play, If a suspended coach violates the suspension he must appear in front of Rules & Ethics, the coach will remain suspended until such an appearance has been completed.)

This is a St. Jude Knights Hockey Club rule.

OFFICIALS

Officials are required to conduct themselves in a businesslike, sportsmanlike, impartial and constructive manner at all times. The actions of an official must be above reproach. Actions such as baiting, or inciting players or coaches are strictly prohibited. On-ice officials are ambassadors of the game and must always conduct themselves with this responsibility in mind.

PARENTS/SPECTATORS

The game will be stopped by on-ice officials when the parents/spectators displaying inappropriate and disruptive behavior interfere with other spectators or the game. The on-ice officials will identify violators to the coaches for the purpose of removing parents/spectators from the spectators viewing and game area.

Once removed, play will resume. Lost time will not be replaced and violators may be subject to further disciplinary action by the local governing body. This inappropriate and disruptive behavior shall include:

Use of obscene or vulgar language in a boisterous manner to anyone at anytime. Taunting of players, coaches, officials or other spectators by means of baiting, ridiculing, threat of physical violence or physical violence.

Throwing of any object in the spectators' viewing area, player's bench, penalty box, or on ice surface, directed in any manner as to create a safety hazard.

Any spectator removed from the playing arena by the official will receive a 3 game suspension to be served the next 3 previously scheduled games, the spectator will not be permitted to enter the playing arena during the 3 games being served.

All rulings are subject to the discretion of the Rules & Ethics Committee
